We'll be sharing this short video with the Sexton Mountain PTC this Friday. The video was done by a small group of five of our students. They learned a lot and can't wait to teach the rest of us for future video projects. Addie, Trek, Caleb, Allison, and Rachael: you did an AMAZING job!!! I'm so proud of you!
And check out our link to our Donors Choose project. Thank you to everyone who donated so far!
We were lucky enough to have Mr. and Mrs. Grass as our special guest scientists last week. We had so much fun learning about cells and DNA. We got to use a response system and "click" in our answers to questions and we got to take a special DNA test by tasting a test strip. Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Grass for coming in and teaching us!
Every Wednesday in our classroom is Word Wednesday. Students are responsible for bringing a word to share and put into our "Word Jar". Students must have a definition, prediction, sentence, part of speech and illustration for their word. Each week we pick the best Word Jar entry and the winner gets to pick a theme for next week's words.
This year we have had some AMAZING Word Jars. We started with paper and pencil entries but quickly escalated to Google presentations. The past few weeks we have even started to have Word Jar videos coming in. Some students were experienced with making videos and some students have been teaching themselves.
We have really been enjoying the entries and wanted to share a few of the latest with you.
Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Stephens who came in today and helped us develop graphic art comic book covers for our novel study project. We learned a lot about process, figure drawing and how/where to place text. And we love our superhero posters!!!
I want to make sure our students have the materials they need to succeed.
So I've created a classroom project request at DonorsChoose.org, an
I'm asking for donations of any size to help our kids. For the next week,
any donation you make to my project will be doubled by Anonymous Donor
(up to $100). If you know anyone who is passionate about education,
please pass this along. Your donation will brighten our students' school
year, and you'll get photos and thank you's from our class.
We had such a busy week last week! Thank you so much to all the parents who came in and helped with science! We had two great experiments and we loved being able to work out in small groups with parents.
We were also lucky enough to have a foreign exchange student from Japan with us for the week. Mia gave us a presentation on rice and made a poster just for us. Here she is with Mackenzie, her host student.
Thursday we got to celebrate the last hour of the day with a Harvest Party. Thanks to all the parents who volunteered. We had a great time!
