We completed our "Movers, Shakers and Change Makers" unit just in time...one day before summer break, whew! We learned so much: the concept of force, six types of simple machines, mechanical advantage, pyramid building, famous scientists and engineers, the engineering design process, and on and on.
Our favorite part was the day we constructed transportation devices out of everyday products. Our transportation devices had to include a wheel and axle and a lever. We accomplished the wheel and axle part but the lever proved more difficult. Something to work on next time.
We would also like to give a shout out...we couldn't have done it without our favorite parent volunteer, Stu. You're the BEST! (Next year, balsa wood, for sure!)

Mr. Schwindt recommended this book to me and I really loved it. If you want to work with the SRC students next year, this book will be a great place to begin. Here is a link to another blog I read that reviewed the book.
